To my father
12 DECEMBER 2024 – 21 FEBRUARY 2025
My Father by Teo Soriano is a tribute to his father, Teodoro, who has taken care of Teo’s work and legacy since his serious accident. He does this out of the bond that unites them, but also out of a deep knowledge of his work, as Teodoro assisted his son in the creative process. To My Father is also a tribute to Teodoro, to a life commited to creation to overwhelming levels, to a coherent and honest production that constantly challenges ourselves.
The 12 works that make up the exhibition were selected by Miriam Pérez, director of Vilaseco, and Álvaro Negro, artist and close friend of Teo. Creation permeated every facet of Teo’s life, including his personal life, which is why his friends are a privileged link to bring us closer to his work. Carlos Maciá, also a friend, had already reflected on this in El desencanto, on the tension in each of his pieces, on the intensity that invaded the workshop. Now it is Miriam Pérez and Álvaro Negro who create a story, a dialogue between these twelve pieces that will bring us closer to the inseparable relationship between the life and work of Teo Soriano.
His concept of art as a craft, his insistence as a method, his stubbornness to stay on the edge, his trust in chance and intuition are reflected in this exhibition. To my father is a sincere tribute to father and son, a recognition of the generosity of both; it is also a tribute to art and to the network of affection that sustains us even when we can no longer do so.
