Rodríguez-Méndez holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He works on projects involving distinct languages that act upon the incorporeality of material and word — languages that analyse and respond to the ungraspable principles of sculpture and of the essential, physical experience of the human being.
His work has been shown in solo exhibitions at venues such as S.M.A.K. in Ghent, MARCO in Vigo, Abierto x Obras (Matadero Madrid), CaixaForum Barcelona, the Instituto Cervantes in Madrid, the Yaddo Foundation in New York, Galería Formato Cómodo in Madrid, and — forthcoming — CA2M in Madrid and the Sirvent space in Vigo; as well as in group projects at CGAC in Santiago de Compostela, Montehermoso in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the Artos Foundation in Nicosia (Cyprus), IVAM, CaixaForum Barcelona, the Contemporary Arts Center in Cincinnati (Ohio, USA), Conde Duque in Madrid, S.M.A.K. and the Vooruit Arts Centre in Ghent (Belgium), LABoral in Gijón, the Sa Nostra Foundation in Mallorca, MAC Gas Natural Fenosa in A Coruña, and the CCCC (Centre del Carme Cultura Contemporània) in Valencia, among others.
He has received the Botín Foundation Grant, the Iniciarte Grants, the Bilbao Arte Foundation grant, the Spanish Ministry of Culture’s grant for the promotion of Spanish art, the Matadero Madrid Grants, the Casa de Velázquez Grant in Madrid, Creation and Production Grants from the Xunta de Galicia, Visual Arts creation grants from the Comunidad de Madrid, and a grant from the Arte y Derecho Foundation; he was also awarded at “CONNEXIO, espacios para la reflexión” in Lugo.
He has been invited to the residency programme at the Yaddo Foundation in New York, the Ateliê Fidalga in São Paulo, and the Kiosko Residencies in Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia). He was recently granted the career award of the Plataforma Festival in Santiago de Compostela, and published his latest book (librosdelaresistencia) in collaboration with the poet Chus Pato, gathering poetic texts and projects under the title La Puerta Natural. His work forms part of the DKV, CGAC (Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea) and S.M.A.K. (Ghent) collections.
He is currently Professor of Sculpture at the Universidad de Salamanca (USAL).
