Frecuencias

2019

Frecuencias (“Frequencies”) showcases three recent series of work by three artists “frequently” shown at Vilaseco.

Nicolás Combarro

This series stems from a commission to create several site-specific works for the Galician Center of Contemporary Art in Santiago de Compostela, an emblematic museum space designed by Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza. The architectural context is so powerful that the work engages in a dialogue with the building itself in order to reveal and activate various elements of its structure.

Oriol Aribau

Oriol Aribau’s Shadows series is an attempt to materialize the ideas put forth by Japanese author Junichiro Tanizaki in his famous essay, In Praise of Shadows. There, Tanizaki argues that while in the West it is light that has traditionally been equated with beauty, in classical Japanese aesthetics this role is ascribed to shadows, with their powerful and enigmatic allure.

Regina Giménez

Regina Giménez’s series of four screen prints, Sun Rays, is based on an old calendar’s representation of the solstice and equinox. The simple colors and shapes symbolize the reflection and influence of the sun’s light upon the earth.
