With Lienzo, Antonio Murado (Lugo, 1964) presents some of the pieces of his most recent and most intimate work, in an exhibition that includes a series of canvases that are between abstraction and the figurative, between the ephemeral and the lasting, between the real and the imagined.

The Lienzo pieces, brought from New York, where the artist lives and works, show a Murado that continues to be attracted by the mysterious and in continuous reinvention of the creative process. Some works where the format, materials and technique are an active part of the work.

““This group of paintings is a selection of works that mark the trajectory and evolution in my practice during the last four years. These are paintings that I kept around in my studio and to which I frequently returned to extract ideas, take new turns, recall sensations and stories, or simply just to look at them again.

They capture the essence of my desire to explore the metaphorical capacity of the actual material support of the painting- the relationship between the canvas and the frame as structure and skin- and to add on layers introducing figurative elements and narratives.

ARTIST’S BOOK

Coinciding with the exhibition, an artist’s book by Antonio Murado is presented. A singular and careful publication edited and published by Vilaseco, with text by María de la Vega. The text of the book is the result of conversations between the historian and the artist on various occasions after her visit to her studio in New Jersey in 2017.

The metaphor of a reader who is not content with the images he sees, and tears out pages to find among the remaining ones impossible associations, hidden by the layout of the pages. With this publication, Antonio Murado adopts the book as a creative tool, as an art object with which he breaks the rules of editorial design, playing openly with paper and images, the vast majority of which are photographs taken by the artist himself taught by the artists. spaces in which he paints and works, such as his studio in New Jersey or his cabin in Catskill Mountain, northwest New York.

Of this book edition of 1,500 copies, the first 150 have been numbered and signed by Antonio Murado, and are bound in linen cloth painted by the artist.
