Ardora
GLORIA GARCÍA LORCA
15 SEP – 18 NOV 2022
Ardora, is the second solo show by Gloria García Lorca at Vilaseco.
The title of this exhibition was inspired by a natural fenomenae of phosphorescence in the ocean called Mar de Ardora that is quite unusual, only seen at night and mostly on the northern coast of Galicia. Gloria saw it last summer on the beach in Corrubedo (Galicia).
Inspired by this phenomenon, the artist presents ten pieces painted on cotton canvas with acrylic paint and a ceramic piece made of refractory clay and enamel.
The pieces are accompanied by two poems, Short Song and Revelation, which describes the scene of ephemeral and unpredictable light on Corrubedo beach, which changes every day.
In this collection of paintings, light needs to be attenuated. There are exits and slots where it can escape, where it tries to expose, reveal and define all that it surrounds and has more of a chance for permanence.
The paint seeped through the canvas softening the line’s sharp edges and forming areas and structures where the light filters through and remains.
The ceramic piece uses the ribbon shape but the spaces in between give the tiles time to breathe and find a rhythm that will keep them safely together.
